Daydream Adventures is home to magic in Toronto’s east end. An escape room you won’t want to escape from. My name is Katelynn and my business partner is Audrey. We’re escape room enthusiasts, former escape room employees and brave new owners. As a business focused on crafting immersive experiences, we have been struggling to see the light at the end of this dark tunnel.
Our business started as a daydream but it grew quickly into a feasible reality. We began to dream while we worked together. We are passionate about making better game experiences. Slowly, we pieced together enough savings, connections and plans to take a leap. Audrey and I began Daydream Adventures in 2018. We worked everyday to create and perfect this magic. Over a year later, in December 2019, we opened.
For just 107 days we shared our dream. The time for adventures was cut way too short. Those early weeks were exhilarating. More players than we anticipated went through our Dream Portal. The feedback was exactly what we dreamt: our game is magical, immersive, beautifully handcrafted and unique. Then suddenly, we were closed.
It has been over 100 days since our last customer. As a new business, we have been hit hard. We were just barely getting ahead of our costs before the closure. Our team of talented artists were laid off. Our savings are gone. There has been very little support available to us. Pandemic related funds help established businesses. Brand new small businesses are left to scramble for relief.
Daydream Adventures has been forced to grow much slower than we aimed. Audrey and I were preparing for the next game, a magical ice cave. We had no choice but to use up the money we had for it. That priority is slipping away the longer we stay closed. We are losing money daily without revenue or access to enough support.
It is enthusiastic players like you that help us see our goal. The hardest thing about all this is hearing from people that want to know when we will reopen and when we will finish our next room. Our team is beyond eager to continue making magic. Our plan was to open another game for Summer 2020. At best, we can say soon. The truth is we don’t know.
Daydream Adventures is asking for your help in any way you can. We know many people are struggling like us. If you cannot support us financially, sharing our story will help us reach someone who can. You will help Audrey and I to continue creating adventures for your team. Your donation will go towards covering costs while we continue to lose revenue and restoring the savings we have spent.
