Support for Deedee Morgan

I am writing this on behalf of my mother, Brenda “DeeDee” Morgan. Anyone who knows my mom loves her. She is the most generous, hardworking, God driven women I know. In my 27 years of life I have never seen her give up or ask for help in her hardest of times. Her will to push forward, keep going, is unlike anyone I’ve seen. She LIVES for her children, grandchildren, home and her business. Her pride and joy is getting out and about with them. Over the past year she has had numerous surgeries, suffering from severe pain, keeping her homebound but she continues to work watching 14-16 children, 11 hours every day.

We all know of Moms injury in 1972. It has been a long 48 years. One of her hardest times is coming her way again. She fell last year, ripping the hamstring off her pelvis. This year in October, she fell and ripped it again. When complications, physical issues began to come up, tests were done, nerve conduction specialists were seen, and an MRI was done. Her physical problems had nothing to do with the hamstring after all. It showed she needs immediate back surgery down in San Francisco. The diagnosis is a tethered spinal cord which means there is an abnormal attachment of the spinal cord to tissue around it. The procedure will separate the spinal cord from tissue that holds it in place. This is a bundle of spinal nerves and spinal nerve rootlets surgery to relieve pressure from the abnormalities in her mid-lower back. And also ‘cauda equina sac’.This is compression of the spinal cord and nerve roots. Without immediate surgery to remove the pressure, it can cause permanent long term nerve damage and total paralysis. We don’t know a lot about this but learning day to day. Because, of the severity and risks involved of this surgery, her neurologist wants the best hands/team of specialist surgeons around. There aren’t many qualified surgeons who have this specialty on the PNW. Thus, Mom is being sent all the way to San Francisco. She is very strong but this is emotionally terrifying for her, our family and so far away being alone.

The surgery will be a minimum of 4-7 days in hospital, and longer if there is any complications and other issues are found. The recovery is a substantial amount of time, anywhere from months to a year. There are things/ help that my mom will need. Mom had no idea about this until last week and we are not prepared for this.  Any help will be used towards travel, recovery, keeping the business running. I am asking; if you find it in your heart, to please help ease the stress for her. I will be working full time to keep her business and her home safe. It is crucial that she rest and not have to worryover everyday life that will continue, even when she’s in recovery. She is scared, pain is high and anxiety is off the charts, not knowing how this will turn out. Please, let’s come together as a Village and help. We ALL are forever grateful. I am available for any questions, info you may need.
