On January 8th of this year my 11 yr old nephew was running down the sidewalk at full speed with his dog and tripped over the leash. He hit his forehead on the concrete. The incident caused one of the most severe concussions I have ever seen.
The concussion effected his gross and fine motor skills, along with his balance, vision, and sound sensitivity. Through physical therapy and occupational therapy he relearned how to run, skip, hop, catch, and throw. He regained the ability to hold a pencil, unlock a dead bolt, and brush his teeth.
For the past nine months Dax has had numerous neurology appointments along with Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, counseling, Opthalmology, Primary Care, Chiropractic Care, and Craniosacral Therapy. Currently he is on the home bound program through WISD because he is unable to attend school.
For the next 4 months his treatment is shifting to concussion therapy which includes Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy and possible vision therapy to aide in sensory issues caused by the concussion. His ears are so sensitive to sound that he is unable to be around large crowds, attend children's church, or handle loud noises. Dax is also having trouble with visual tracking, visual teaming, visual focusing, and visual-spatial awareness. This testing is where the need for prism glasses was discovered.
Below is a list of weekly appointments:
Concussion Therapy (Cash Pay Center)
2x per week $330
Craniosacral therapy (Cash Pay Center)
1x per week $45
Neuro-Optometrist (Insurance doesn’t cover this specialist)
Transitional Prism Glasses $1900 + possible vision therapy
Counseling
1x per week $30
Dax has 4 months of treatment remaining. His parents have exhausted the insurance and their personal savings, so any monies raised will assist in paying for these last months of treatment.
Please pray for healing in the areas of vision, ears, balance, anxiety, and a smooth transition back into the classroom.
