Dawsyn’s life changing surgery
Donation protected
When Dawsyn was 3 months old, she got sick for the first time. They noticed she was having a lot of trouble breathing so they took her straight to the ER where they encountered the first of many hospitalizations. This first hospitalization lasting a week. Just two weeks later, they were readmitted due to breathing issues again. This was just the start of Dawsyn’s long medical journey. Countless hospital visits, seeing her pediatrician multiple times a week, every single week. Dawsyn’s entire medical team decided they needed to refer her to an airway surgeon specialist to decide what the next steps would be. During an exploratory scope procedure they learned of her multiple complications. Tracheobronchialmilacia, laryngomilacia, laryngeal cleft, grade 2 Subglottic Stenois, and chronic bacteria in the lungs. She was also diagnosed with moderate persistent asthma. Dawsyn has a >50% collapse of her airway, essentially her airway is less than 1/2 the width it’s supposed to be. So when she is sick (any illness will cause inflammation of her airway) thus causes almost a complete collapse of her airway leading to respiratory failure. They decided with her medical team, enough is enough with the illness. She will be having a repair the subglotic stenosis on Thursday April 17. This surgery will take a piece of her rib and add it into her airway to open it up more.
This is a very lengthy recovery…. Spending at least 2 weeks in the hospital if not longer. With an estimated 6 week recovery. This will be a life changing surgery for Dawsyn.
Anyone who knows Ali & Corey know they are the most selfless people and would quite literally do anything for their family and friends. This will be a huge financial burden on their family as her surgery and recovery will take place in San Diego, nearly an hour away from where they live. I hope we can raise enough to lessen the burden so they are able to solely focus on their daughter’s recovery and not finances when it comes to gas, food, child care, etc.
