Dawn’s Tribe
Donation protected
On October 15, 2018, our sister, Dawn McIntyre, was diagnosed with an inoperable form of liver cancer, Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC).
A very costly interventional radiology procedure called Y90 Radio-Embolization will hopefully give us
15 more months of her life.
But whatever Medicare and her supplemental insurance will not cover of that procedure, she and Treesie will have to pay.
This blow is only one of several
back-to-back serious health issues
with which Dawn has struggled over the past 20+ years —
Stage IV Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2009, a diagnosis of Early-Onset Parkinson’s Disease in 2010, and in 1997 she was diagnosed and treated for Hepatitis C, contracted on-the-job as a gastrointestinal RN.
This serious illness directly led to Dawn’s development of HCC liver cancer.
Adding insult to injury, since 2016, Dawn’s wife, Treesie, has been fighting Stage IV lung cancer and chronic vertigo and balance issues.
These personal health issues and medical expenses — as well as the added expenses of the end-of-life care over the past 5 years spent for Treesie’s mom and then my and Dawn’s mom — in addition to the two of them digging deep always to assist friends struggling with their own financial difficulties — all of this has eventually depleted their savings and basically ruined their credit.
With this new health crisis, their fixed income — Dawn’s Social Security Permanent Disability and Treesie’s Social Security benefits — is failing to keep pace with their mortgage, basic living expenses, and credit card debt incurred as a result of their medical expenses.
They are enormously grateful for the incredible generosity of a group of friends which allowed them to go on a Dream Trip to the UK this past April — a fabulous trip which they would never have been able to afford on their own and for which they are eternally grateful — plus the generosity of many who have occasionally out of the blue contributed a little here and there.
Because of these incredibly generous gifts and donations, Dawn and Treesie are resistant to asking for help — feeling hugely blessed already — but the debt still has to be paid, and Dawn doesn’t want to leave this world with that debt hanging over Treesie’s head.
If you can see clear to contribute a few dollars to their cause, we as their family and friends would be so appreciative.
