Dawns Medical Expeneses
UPDATE: THE HOSPITAL BILL AND FLIGHTS HAVE BEEN PAID FOR.
We will keep the campaign live so that we are able to provide updates.
Any further donations that may occur during this time will of course go towards the ongoing costs of Dawns rehabilitation and the travel costs associated with having her son visit her when possible. But please don't feel obliged to donate. We have Dawn home (well shes in the air!)). This was our goal.
Again one million thousand thankyou's.
UPDATE: We are still trying to rasie funds to cover the hospital bill due to an increased stay in hospital.
UPDATE: From Donna Saalfeld.
Dawns still in the intensive care surgical unit with 100% care. Dawns transfer is going to be most likely stretcher repatriation as she is unable to sit up for sustained periods due to her multiple orthopedic fractures. Dawn is going to require BOTH a nurse and a Dr escort for the flights and we hope to be given some possible dates from the Australian medical team soon. Dawns drs are happy with her progress and she undertakes physical rehabilitation everyday. Dawn is still confused but is making improvements everyday with her memory. Yesterday Dawn drank a glass of apple juice and ate almost a whole apple which is the first solid she has eaten so this is a huge step in the right direction. The hospital continues to give Dawn a milk powder and encourages her to eat everyday.
Thanks again for the support and messages. It is very much appreciated.
The short story...
Dawn has had a terrible accident overseas and her medical bills and transfer back to Australia aren't covered by insurance. We need your help.
The long story...
Dawn and her son Josh took a trip overseas to visit family. They stopped in Thailand for a little holiday before they returned back to work and school in Australia. It was here that they were involved in a terrible motorbike accident.
The accident occurred in Koh Lanta. She was riding a moped and had a head on collision with truck. Josh her son was a passenger and escaped with minimal injuries compared to his mother Dawn. She was taken to Koh Lanta Government Hospital who did not even admit her because her injuries were too severe. She was taken to Krabi Government Hospital. A close friend dropped everything in her own life in Australia and traveled over to support Josh and try and help with Dawns recovery, and return to Australia.
When she arrived all documents had to be collected for assessment by the technical team at the insurance company.
Unfortunately if you don't hold a motor bike license, the policy does not cover you. Dawn has sustained a fractured skull and multiple brain contusions, fractured C2, fractured right shoulder (plate has been put in shoulder), fractured ulnar and radius and also an open wound on wrist, fractured tibia and fibia and 2 plates put into leg.
She also fractured multiple ribs (1-8) and had a lung contusion. Dawn needs to have a medical escort to return home to Australia and this is going to be expensive. Pending on doctors reports this could happen in a few days- with a lung tube and only if her brain injury has been given the all clear to fly.
The medical bill to date is over $56,000 AU and is not the final bill and her travel has been quoted at around $36,000AU and my ticket will need to be paid too. I urge everyone to help to get Dawn home by donating as small or large amount as you can afford.
With much appreciation from Dawn, Josh, her family, myself and all of the wider community who love Dawn. Signed Donna Saalfeld
UPDATE:
Hi I'm Amy- I am managing this acount on Dawn's behalf (she doesn't even know it exists yet mind you). I am currently residing in Adelaide but my home town is Valla, Dawn's hometown. I've known Dawn for many years now (over ten years in fact ). I worked with her son at the local Preschool and have known them both to be absolutely brilliant & compassionate humans beings.
As the money donated here is cleared it will be direct deposited into Dawn's bank account so that all costs incurred can be paid immediately. The money raised here will be used firstly to pay off the mounting hospital bill (this was over $50,000 AU when we started this and is increasing by around $2,500 AU every day Dawn remains in the hospital. Then the flights home (including a seat for Dawn and a Dr in business class and economy seat for Donna) and then there is the inevitable further cost of rehabilitation. We are unsure of final figures for much of this so it is tricky to be exact with money allocation. BUT please be assured that all the money will be going towards getting Dawn home and helping her heal. We will post updates of receipts as bills are paid so you can all see where your very much needed and appreciated, hard earned donations are allocated.
Once again we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts❤
