Dawns Everest Stair Challenge for the NHS
My name is Dawn and I am going to do the Everest stair climb challenge, climbing 58070 steps of my staircase to summit Everest.
The NHS has been there for me over the last 5 years and longer. In September 2015 I had a hip replacement at Royal Derby Hospital, which gave me back my quality of life.
I was then diagnosed with having a cerebral aneurysm on 13th April 2007. It was decided that this be monitored and every 3 years I had an MRI scan, everything was fine until on 12th January 2018 when I was told that it had grown, and surgery was advised. I therefore opted to have the surgery on 16th May 2018 at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. Unfortunately, the operation didn’t go quite as planned. I had a bleed on the brain whilst on the operating table. An emergency craniotomy had to be performed. It was touch and go whether I survived. I then had cranioplasty to correct the damage to my skull on 19th March 2019, again at Queens Medical Centre. I had a tonic clonic seizure the day after and have had a few focal seizures since. I have now made a full recovery.
I therefore would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Queens Medical Centre and Royal Derby Hospital for saving my life. A big thank you also goes out to all NHS workers doing a fantastic job during the current pandemic.
I remember saying please don't let me die to the nursing staff. I would not want to be in that position again.
So please everyone stay at home and stay safe to save lives
Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of NHS Charities Together /Association of NHS Charities and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
