Dawns cancer fight- round 2
Donation protected
My friend Janice brought up this idea and wrote this outline for me.
Dawn’s first Breast Cancer diagnosis was in September of 2021. She had surgery, went through chemotherapy and then radiation. She celebrated being cancer free in June of 2022.
Then, this September, Dawn lost the use of her left arm. She went to the walk-in clinic where she was told to go directly to the ER. In the ER she had 2 MRI’s and a full body Cat Scan. They discovered a brain tumor, two lesions on the brain and two spots in her lungs.
Dawn was transported by ambulance to the University of Washington Medical Center where she spent the next 9 days. She had another MRI and they performed surgery to remove the brain tumor. Once the tumor was tested, they diagnosed Dawn with Metastatic Breast Cancer.
Once the brain tumor was removed, she regained the use of her left arm with the help of Physical Therapy.
Back in Wenatchee she had a Nuclear Bone Scan and another MRI prior to starting radiation for the residual brain tumor and the two brain lesions.
Once radiation is complete, she will start chemotherapy to eradicate the 2 spots in her lungs and any other cancer seeds that cannot be seen yet in her body. She has hopes for a full recovery and to be once again cancer free once her treatments are complete.
Dawn is a single mom who has worked for the same non-profit for 23+ years. Until a fire in February of this year she had lived in the same apartment for 19+ years. Fortunately, she had renters’ insurance, however she is still working with the insurance company to re-imburse her for her losses.
She was fortunate that her landlord did not hold her to having to have 2 ½ to 3 times the income of the rental amount and allowed her to move into another apartment that became available a few months later after living in a hotel room during the transition.
Dawn has not been able to work during this time. She does have medical insurance, however the maximum out of pocket expenses are 10,000 per calendar year. Her medical bills have already started arriving and she does not have the funds to pay them and pay her monthly housing costs, food, and necessities. Her financial stress is adding to the stress of the second cancer diagnosis and the uncertainty that has rocked her world again.
Please consider donating what you can to help pay her out of pocket expenses for medical care and other related expenses as she goes through the medical process and recovers from this second cancer diagnosis so she can focus on healing, quality of life, and becoming cancer free again.
