The events of the past year have taxed each and every one of us. We have kept our businesses going in spite of the mandated closures and done the best to safeguard our health. Yet some have been dealt hands they have no control over and do not deserve.
One of our own, Dawn Omboy the Queen of Color, has been dealt one of those hands. Over the past several years she has survived cancer and internal bleeding disorders, all of which were life threatening.
Now, she is dealing with a congenital heart problem that requires open heart surgery. In simple terms Dawn‘s heart is too big, something we all already knew. Surgery is her only option and, while her prognosis is good, she needs our help..
Dawn is the breadwinner and the only source of income for her family.
Mandated closures due to the Covid-19 Pandemic as well as bills from her treatments over the past several years have finally taken their toll and drained her resources. While insurance will take care of much of the hospital and treatment bills, it will not cover any out of pocket or everyday living expenses.
Compassionate groomers have come to help keep her salon stay open to at least provide an income stream for her and her employees as well as maintain her client base, but Dawn will be away from the grooming table for at least three months. And it will be several more months before she is “back in the game” again.
With this in mind, we are reaching out to the grooming community to please help Dawn in her hour of need. Dawn has done so much for the professional grooming industry and has colored our world in the Creative arena. She has always been dedicated to helping others and her positive attitude is contagious, in spite of her hardships.
