Update #5
Davy seems to be recovering well from his corrective surgery. We won't be entirely sure that it was successful until he's healed up in about two weeks. Currently he has one more day of antibiotics, and then we will see what happens - about three days after his previous round was finished, Davy began to decline again. So we are still quite scared that history will repeat itself.
Below are copies of a few of our vet bills. While this is not everything (there were dozens of papers), Noel and I are hoping this will show how dire the situation is, since these are the bills that make up the bulk of our costs. Even though we are optimistic that Davy is out of danger, and hope he doesn't decline again, we are still left with the financial fallout. So we will be continuing the GoFundMe until we reach the goal (which accounts for all of the vet expenses, including medications and more doctors visits, as we had several in the $100-$200 price range all in a row seeking a diagnosis, a diagnosis we still never actually got confirmed).
Thank you again, everyone.
Update #4
The infection did indeed return. And while the antibiotics have helped, he's still showing signs of pain and having difficulty eating (he's eating, though, so we weren't forced to hospitalize him again). He's seeing the vet for a check up tomorrow to make sure he's healthy enough for the expensive-but-necessary surgery the next day. At this point, we are just praying they are able to repair the damage and help our baby get better.
Update #3
His infection appears to have returned. We’re starting him on a new round of antibiotics. But if he doesn’t respond to those, then an expensive surgery is probably necessary, and I’ll be updating our funding goal to follow suit if we get to that point.
Please donate if you can, and share if you can’t. Thank you.
Update #2
The specialist did not think that it would be safe to operate on Davy Jones. They weren't able to verify exactly what was wrong, and so we were forced to keep treating his symptoms without knowing the cause of his sudden and aggressive infection.
Davy's fever finally responded to the antibiotics, though. He has regained his appetite and is going to the litterbox regularly. We were able to bring him home a few days ago, and his antibiotics course is now finished. Two days have passed and his health seems back to normal.
We've updated the goal for the GoFundMe to properly reflect the bills left to be paid. (The goal was originally higher because we thought there would be an emergency surgery bill, likely followed by a longer hospital stay for his recovery if that happened.)
While Davy seems to be out of any immediate danger, the bills are still a problem for both of his parents. So we encourage you to share this campaign with as many people as you know, and obviously we'd deeply appreciate any help that you could contribute.
With that said, thank you so much to everyone that has donated and shared so far. You have sincerely helped save the life of our cat. Words can't even express how grateful we are for that. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Update #1
The infection was spreading in Davy's system, causing his fever to get worse. The hospital switched him to a new kind of antibiotic, and it seems to be working at controlling his fever. He is seeing a specialist on August 30th, and may be getting emergency surgery that day depending on what the specialist decides.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Noel and I sincerely appreciate everything that you've done. The fight is far from over, but every dollar has absolutely helped.
Original Post
Hello,
Davy Jones was a stray cat that we found under our house in 2018. He stole our hearts immediately, and has turned into the sweetest housecat in the years since.
Davy loves to play. He's always rolling around with toys, attacking strings, and making adorable gremlin noises with glee while he does. He loves to talk to us, always chatting and meowing and chirping around the house. And every single night, he either falls asleep cuddling with his mom or dad.
Recently, Davy went in for what was supposed to be a routine dental extraction. The vet took out two of his teeth, only for the site of one extraction to become immediately infected. He hasn't been able to eat or drink for days. He's lost weight and developed a fever as the infection gets worse. This has forced us to take him to the pet hospital for emergency care.
Now Davy is struggling for his life. And while he does, the cost of his care goes up every day. We love him beyond words and would do anything to get our sweet, talkative, playful guy home safely. But to do that, we are in desperate need of help. Anything at all that you can afford to give would make a tremendous difference.
