Davina’s Gender Affirming Procedure

Dear World,

For those of you who do not know me, My name is Davina 007. I’m a poet, a performer, and visual artist living in Brooklyn, NY. Above all of this, I’m a Black Woman of Trans experience looking for assistance in feeling home within my current body.

Imagine for a moment waking up outside yourself. You see your body, but you don’t recognize it fully. You reach out and can’t quite touch it, you know it is yours to do what you please but the sight of it makes you crumble. You’re almost there but something keeps holding you back from making it home.

I began transitioning in 2017 shortly after graduating from college. I even wrote a book about my experiences coming into my divine feminine. The poem that continues to repeat in my mind is “Chest Envy” - a poem about my dysphoria and my hope to one day eradicate this feeling forever. Every day I wake up feeling alone, estranged and not at home within my flesh.

The good news is that I have a date set for gender affirming top surgery (4/20/2023) with a surgeon I absolutely love and truly understands the vision for my body. My current healthcare plan is not set to cover this procedure and I do not qualify for insurances such as Amida Care or Healthfirst that typically would cover such operations.

This is where I call upon you, the community:::

The down payment due for me to have this operation is $5,000. Remaining balance due is TBD and I plan on enlisting in a payment plan to sort this out. For now, I’m setting the goal at $6,000 to hopefully give me wiggle room while I recover and a push forward when the instalments are due. I will also be having a fundraiser show in NYC March 3rd (stay tuned - it will be crazy, sexy, cool) along with using any funds I’m able to save through my jobs, but I can not do this alone.

I believe in the power of community coming together to make dreams come true. Community has come through for me in the past, and I’m hoping this time community can help share, donate, spread in a way that is so fierce I’m able to return home - into my body and wake up to look downward feeling complete. Any and all donations help and will be solely used for down payment and remaining balance.
