David's motorcycle accident recovery

In late January, David was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with some serious injuries. He has been unable to work for this past month, and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future while he undergoes multiple complicated surgeries and rehabilitation. We want to help David during this tough time by raising funds to cover his medical expenses, rehabilitation, other costs associated with his recovery, and general living expenses while he's unable to work.

In the accident, David badly injured his leg and hip. Upon initial impact, his femur was forced up so hard that it shattered the back of his hip into seven pieces and dislocated the femur from the socket. His foot was nearly severed, and doctors have been working to save the foot and with multiple surgeries, reconstruct his leg above the ankle.

His journey so far has consisted of 4 major surgeries, with more to come in the future. After an initial emergency surgery to install an external fixator to keep everything in place and stabilize him, the doctors came up with a treatment plan. Hip surgery was the first step in the plan, installing plates and screws to hold his hip together. Next was leg surgery with more metal to hold his lower leg together. About a week later, they went in to reconstruct the space where his foot was nearly severed. They removed the entire latissimus dorsi muscle from his back and large patches of skin from his thigh to rebuild his lower leg.

David recently left the hospital and is staying in a rehab facility, caring for the delicate muscle and skin graft to ensure that the reconstruction stays viable and takes. He’s also preparing for an additional surgery to graft the missing bone in the spot where his foot was almost severed. Amputation of his foot is still possible with risk of infection and the potential overall complications, but he’s optimistic that the reconstruction will stick and with rest and rehab he’ll be back on his (two) feet.

David's a tough guy, but he needs our support right now. Any contribution you can make, no matter how small, will go directly towards helping David get through this trying time.

Let's rally around David and show him how much he means to us. Thank you for your support as he works towards recovery!
