My son David, who is now 24, was diagnosed with an erosive esophagus years ago. Recently, he has been throwing up coffee ground vomit and there has been blood in his stool. He has lost a lot of weight, has a hard time eating, and constantly sick (throwing up). It is starting to take a big toll on his everyday life. We have been to 2 different hospitals in hopes of getting some help and answers; both hospitals say that he needs to be scoped to “see” where he is bleeding from and what is going on in his esophagus. However, no scoping is performed as an ER patient and neither hospital will admit him. Leaving him to see two different GI specialist at this point. Both specialist agreeing he needs to be scoped. This is where the problems begin.
David has insurance through his job, however, through this process we have learned that the insurance is basically useless. The first specialist stated the scoping will cost $2,500 and today we learned through the latest specialist the scoping will be $3,500. Endless calls and arguments with the insurance company and doctors have turned up empty. In order to get the scoping performed we have to bring this amount of money with us. His appointment is scheduled for December 21,2018 and we were just told today about the amount of money that we need to bring with us in order to get the procedure done.
I am a single mom and have been for many years, as his father passed many years ago. He is a 24 year old who has faced many obstacles in his life. We do not have 3,500 laying around to bring with us in order to get this procedure done in order to get answers, help, and on the road to recovery.
Also, this is just a “deposit” and not to mention the medical bills that are starting to come in from the ER visits and specialist appointments.
I am asking for any help please to be able to get my son this procedure done in order to get him some help.
