David's Fight for Life: Double Lung Transplant Needed

Donation protected
In July 2023 David began to experience severe shortness of breath, fatigue, unexplained weight loss and occasional swelling for an extended period of time. As a result he took a leave of absence from Union Pacific Railroad where he was employed as a conductor and began seeking medical attention and referrals to specialists.

He returned to work in November of 2023 before falling ill again in the later part of January of 2024. In February of 2024 he was admitted to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he spent several days in ICU before being diagnosed with the end stages of COPD, possible Sarcoidosis and Pulmonary Hypertension. He has not been able to return to work since. He was released with multiple meds, portable oxygen as well as a trilogy machine/ventilator akin to a bi-pap in an attempt to regulate his oxygen and CO2 levels. He has had multiple follow up appointments with his family doctor and pulmonologist but unfortunately despite this rigorous course of treatment his lung function has shown no improvement and he was recently advised that double lung transplantation is needed to restore his quality of life.

Unfortunately this procedure is not performed locally and requires relocation to a regional hospital. He has selected a facility in St. Louis, Missouri due to its proximity to family. He will be accompanied by his primary care giver/wife, Daisha, their 10 year old son, Logan and anticipates being in St. Louis area for approximately three to six months.

Despite his wife being employed full time, the loss of his income has caused a great financial strain on his household and he has relied on the kindness of friends and family to maintain the basic necessities.

The average cost of a double lung transplant is 1.2 Million dollars, however David has been advised that his out of pocket expenses will be approximately $9,000.00. We are seeking assistance with travel back and forth to St. Louis leading up to the procedure as well as ultimately relocating and the rental of a temporary residence as required after the procedure. We estimate that cost will be upwards $15,000.00. Understanding that so many have given so much already, any amount is appreciated.
