Imagine you are 3 days from your 35th birthday and you are diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and it has metastasized in your liver. Unfortunately, this was not an imagined moment for my husband. From that moment our lives were forever changed. My husband, David, was given a chance of survival of 5-15%. One year later, we continue to walk blindly, with absolute faith in God, and trust in His plan. With your support we can obtain the lifesaving treatment that David so desperately needs.
Our story began on that day with David’s cancer diagnosis. After months of Chemo and radiation he was finally a candidate for surgery. On July 5, 2016 he went in for tumor removals in his colon and liver. They cut away about 10" of his colon, however during surgery, backed up stool flooded his abdomen. After hours of the surgeons attempting clean it up, he still quickly started to become very sick. Within 48 hours he had become septic and unstable in critical condition. He was put into a medically induced coma and they were artificially keeping his blood pressure from dropping. By the grace of God, after a temporary tracheotomy and 27 days sleeping, they finally started waking him up. He was left with a colostomy bag and had lost all his body's muscle and about 45lbs. He had to learn to walk and swallow again. But like the fighter he is, he did amazing. Within a month he was walking out of church holding our 5 year olds’ hand. He started back on Chemo during September and October. We were then told he was cancer free!! On November 28, 2016 he went into surgery to have his colostomy removed and his colon reconnected, but we got the devastating news his colon has too much scar tissue to reconnect him. Possibly later on he could heal enough to reconnect, but still a chance he never will. But, we were told there was still no signs of cancer.
December 15, 2016 he was re-hospitalized for a major infection due to surgery. They scanned him to keep a close eye on him the last week of December. Apparently there was a small spot in his liver they were watching. They were assuming it was scar tissue as his blood work was showing no signs of cancer.
In January 2017 we got an urgent call from his oncologist that she needed to see us immediately. The spot they were watching on the scan in his liver had apparently grown while on Chemo. In February he went in for a biopsy. It was the news we didn't want to hear. "It's cancer." Again! They believed most likely residual cancer cells from the tumors removed in July. While we waited to see a radiologist about targeted radiation, he was sent for another scan. And the blows didn't stop coming. There's now another spot in his liver. It's now traveling through his blood stream. We stayed centered and our faith never wavered.
In February, through joining the Primerica company with Davids cousin, Ashley and her husband Kevin Hobbs, we learned of a cancer treatment center in Scottsdale, Arizona. They began introducing us to some amazing women who shared their own personal stories of their experience at the Envita clinic. This center has been hugely successful for them. One of them was Sandy, who is 15+ years cancer free of colon cancer after her treatment at Envita. After many prayers for guidance, God made a way for us to visit Scottsdale and the clinic. The staff and the facility blew us away! But the most amazing part of it was the individual DNA testing with the integration of traditional and natural medicines. I said that day, “I have to find a way to get my husband treated here."
Traditional medicine has been great. It saved my husband last year. But from their own standards, if he lives 5 years that is a win for them. Well, that's not ok with me. I do not want my 10 year to be a pallbearer at his dad’s funeral in 5 years. I want to find a lasting cure for him. And with my entire heart, I believe Envita can get us closer to that dream. My only stumbling block from here is Envita is all out of pocket. Though their treatments are all clinically trial tested and proven effective, it's only FDA approved in other countries. The insurance system in the US will not financially support these treatments. So here I am, taking a leap in faith, humbly asking 2000 people to donate $25 dollars. The ballpark of cost for treatment is $50,000 dollars. I'm not sure what I will need exactly, but there's no dollar amount I won't work for, things I won't sell, pleading I won't do, to save my husband’s life.
I thank each of you who took the time to read this. I profusely thank those who find it in their hearts to help fund these treatments for David and get us one step closer to our dream.
