Hi, my name is Morgan and I am fundraising for my brother-in-law in his battle against colon cancer.
On January 16th, after quite some time of David not feeling well, mostly fatigue and body aches, a colonoscopy and CT Scans confirmed colon cancer. There are still unanswered questions and pending results, but here is what we do know so far:
It is at least stage 2 colon cancer. We will know more when lymph node testing results come back from his surgery he had on January 29th. If those are positive, it is stage 3. There are a few nodules on his lungs and one is a little more concerning than the others. They will check for growth in 4-6 weeks, if there is growth it likely means cancer and stage 4. Surgery went very well on the 29th, the surgeon removed 1/3 of his colon as well as surrounding lymph nodes. He's recovering well at home and has an amazing support system in their family and friends. David will start chemo in 4-6 weeks after recovery from surgery.
The amount of prayers and good energy sent to David and Ashley has been second to none, and it truly means more than anyone knows. We've got some of the best prayer warriors around and we will take all we can get! David is going to beat this! For anyone that knows David, you know how positive he is and he's still handling this with the best outlook and his humor is still kicking!
Now for the financial logistics. David will need to be off work for 6 weeks for recovery, and additional time after that once he starts chemo. Between time off when Quinn was born and sick time while his symptoms have been progressing, he will not have enough paid time off. With medical bills on top of no paid time off, this is why I'm creating this fundraiser. To help lift some of the many burdens that their family is enduring.
Any help is much appreciated, including prayers and words of support and encouragement.
In addition to this fundraiser, David has qualified for "Catastrophic Leave" which is a program through the University (where David works) which allows employees to donate their vacation time to another employee to cover missed time, allowing them to remain in paid status. If you are a University of Iowa employee, and would like to donate your time to him, please go to UI Donation Form and search "donation form" and it will walk you through the process from there.
Thank you for all the continued prayers, well wishes, good energy and positive thoughts sent their way. It does not go unseen!
