David Keylon - Fighting CNS lymphoma
Donation protected
On Christmas Eve, 2018, Dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had a seizure before he could be transferred to ParkWest hospital. He stayed in CCU/ICU for several days and eventually had a craniotomy, where they successfully removed most of his tumor. The tumor was found to be B-cell (large type) lymphoma with aggressive features. Since it was in his brain, they consider that central nervous system, or CNS, lymphoma. Dad is now going through a VERY aggressive chemotherapy regimen to kill off any remaining cancer cells, as his type of lymphoma is aggressive. He is currently halfway through treatment, and has had many ups and downs. He had a bad reaction to the first round of chemo that had him in and out of the hospital. He went neutropenic (white blood cells and platelets were wiped out) and had to get a transfusion. He got the flu, and was diagnosed with interstitial pneumonitis - he could barely take three steps (while on oxygen) without running out of air!
Dad and I have done our best to keep up with the influx of bills that have come in. We're very thankful for the insurance he has, but he was recently denied SSI disability (even though SSI is supposed to have a "compassionate allowances" fast track for this type of cancer). I'm trying to work this out with his case manager.
His portion of the bill for one round of 5 day inpatient chemo is $2,000; before insurance the bill is over $40,000! He has to complete four rounds, totaling $8,000. I currently have a payment plan set up with ParkWest for one of the $2,000 bills.
His bill for his stay in CCU/ICU alone is $8,500.
He also has a $2,100 bill from the neutropenic/flu/pneumonitis week long stay.
On the whole, right now we expect to have bills roughly totaling $18,600 barring any unforeseen complications.
4/18/19 he had to get another infusion of 2 bags of platelets. No idea on cost yet.
$8,000 seems like a lot to ask for from friends and family who have already helped us so much, but any little bit helps.
