Help build a new computer

Donation protected
If you have visited my Go Fund Me account, I want to say that I really appreciate your concern for my wellbeing. Most people today only think of themselves and "don't have time" to make new friends or help someone. There is a growing social attitude today that basically says: "me first" and just let everyone else go fend for themselves as best they can (what I call the "I've got mine, so you go get yours yourself" philosophy), It is especially difficult when you have been considered a "valuable expert" in your younger years, but when you get older you are considered "less valuable" to society.

I spent the majority of my life working in computer related fields for a number of companies including ATT. A couple of years back my health became an issue and I could no longer do physical work, so since I was eligible by age (I am 66 now) to collect Social Security, I “retired” from working full time. Now that I am "retired" I have been providing free "home computer support" for friends and family and have even set up a Facebook page where people can ask computer questions and I will provide possible solutions to their technical issues.

Occasionally I was even able to earn a little “extra” income to supplement my small Social Security income doing work on a client’s computer, The problem is the last computer I built, the one I am using now to do work with, is over 5 years old and is having major hardware issues that make it impossible to do any real computer work on a steady basis.

In the past I have "built" my own computers to the specifications I need, including the hardware components, in order to do development work, assist people with computer issues, and help with design work on web sites. Since I usually buy all the components separately, assemble all the system's components, install the operating system, and add all necessary software myself, I have always been able to "build" a top notch computer for about half of what a new computer with the same “power” would cost retail.

Since I can’t basically work on my computer right now to earn an “extra” income, and am living solely of my small Social Security payment these days, I have set up the "Go Fund Me" account to see if I can raise enough funds to purchase all the necessary hardware components I would need and build a new development computer. I could then have a decent computer to use and maybe earn some “extra” income, but more important, I could continue helping others with their computer problems.

I have set my fund raising goal to $1200, which should be enough to buy all the components I would need to build a good development system. As a benefit for your support, I have decided that when I raise enough money to build a new computer to do web work and support others, I will give free direct contact “over the phone” computer technical support for six months to anyone who has donated at least $10 or more.
