Breast Cancer: x 3
It seems like I’ve known DaVida (V and Queen V are my nicknames for her) all my life and she is the strongest person I know. DaVida is a survivor. You see, DaVida is fighting breast cancer for the 3rd time in her less than 40 years on this planet. Yes, you read that correctly, 3. Three. THREE times in 40 years!! God’s plan for her must be to show the rest of us how to fight, battle, survive, persevere, and overcome but most importantly, how to love and how to live. She is my sister, my role model, my heart and I love her dearly. She is in the middle of this fight right now and needs our help. Since I moved away from Columbia, SC it is really hard for me to help V. I send care packages once a month but that isn’t enough. She is still a single parent who hasn’t been able to work since October 2016.
Breast Cancer History
In 2003, DaVida was diagnosed the 1st time with Stage 4 Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ invasive cancer. It was devastating news for her, her family and friends. After 2 unsuccessful lumpectomies DaVida had to have a mastectomy. During her pre-op visit she found out she was pregnant. Her doctors told her to terminate her pregnancy but V had her own plans. She put off her treatment in order to carry her child to term. She was due sometime late 2004.
In 2003-2004, DaVida was diagnosed a 2nd time at the end of 2003 with Recurrence Breast Cancer on chest wall while she was still pregnant. So, in August 2004 DaVida delivered Miyah Nicole and then was whisked off for a mastectomy. Afterwards she started Chemo and then on to radiation. She had 9 rounds of chemo and 33 rounds of radiation. All this with a newborn (Miyah) and a 5 year old (Jazmyne).
In 2017, DaVida was diagnosed a 3rd time with stage 3A Breast Cancer with Metastasis to the Lymph Nodes. Wow, a third time, really? I got kind of mad at God. Why would He do this to the most beautiful person on the planet? She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, she has no ill will towards anyone!! Well, DaVida set me straight and said it was His plan for her and that she was up to the challenge, again. She is in the middle of this fight right now and she is duking it out like a Super Bowl MVP. She has finished 14 rounds of chemo and is in the middle of 33 rounds of radiation.
She still has bills to pay and times are getting tough. It is very hard for her to ask for help so when she sent me the ok to start fundraising I knew it was serious. She is a very private person as well. So, I told her I would wait for her permission to start putting some of her most private information out there for everyone to see. It still makes me uncomfortable but this isn’t about me, is it?
So, if you could, please donate to help Queen V not drown in the debt of cancer.
