David's Walkaide Fund
As many of you are aware David has had trouble walking for some time. He has drop foot where he drags his foot and is unable to pick it up. This causes him to fall a lot. After exhausting visits to several specialists, who were unable to help, it was determined that this condition is caused by a traumatic brain injury that David suffered many years ago. This condition has deteriorated over the years, and as David has gotten older (He is 61 years old now) it has continually worsened. Recently, we discovered a device called the Walkaide System. The Walkaide System sends electrical signals to the personeal nerve, which controls movement in the ankle and foot. These electrical impulses activate the muscles to automatically raise the foot at the appropriate time during each step causing a more natural and safer walking motion. It consists of a battery operated, single-channel electrical stimulator, two electrodes and electrode leads. It is worn directly on the leg and is customized for each individual. Unfortunately, this device is not covered by David's insurance and is extremely expensive. The cost for the device itself is $5007. In addition, there are monthly supplies that need to be purchased (2 electrodes need to be replaced each month). David has tried this device and the results were amazing. This is definitely a safety concern due to the frequency of his falls. Please help raise these funds for David. Any donations you can make, however small, will help and will be so greatly appreciated. Thank You.
