Hello! I’m Tyra, and my husband is David Krause. David was diagnosed with a grade IV brain tumor called Glioblastoma Multiforme.  The same cancer Ted Kennedy, Beau Biden and John McCain succumbed to after a fierce battle. For David, the diagnosis came via massive stroke due to the brain tumor. All of this left David with neurological deficits, loss of speech and partial paralysis. At the time of his diagnosis we had two young children, the youngest in diapers. I immediately became the sole provider for our family, working 2-3 jobs at any given time to cover the medical expenses. Not only did/do we incur bills for cancer treatment, we also incurred bills for his stoke (speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and aphasia groups). Like any wife would, I became my husband’s primary caregiver once he was released from the hospital, while continuing to raise our children. The medical bills continued and continue to mount, and now our oldest child is a freshman in college. As many people know, the San Francisco Bay Area is a very expensive place to live. I only stayed for the world-class medical team David has. Unfortunately, I have had to make the difficult decision to move our family to the East Coast (where I was born and raised) to be closer to my family and support system, and where housing is less insane. Our goal is to move to Massachusetts this fall. While I continue to be David’s primary caregiver and raise our other child, working 2-3 jobs to cover medical expenses and now college has become quite difficult. For this reason, as hard as it is for me, I am now reaching out to all of you and your networks to help out with medical expenses. 

 Also, I am still planning to move to Massachusetts to continue the work I am so passionate about - homeless services, foster care, youth development and food justice- as a nonprofit executive.
