Two of our friends, David and Lori Youngs, are going through an extremely difficult and frightening journey right now as they battle David's recent diagnosis of Stage 4 Bladder Cancer . They are mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially drained as a result of all they are going through and running out of hope. Each and every day since David's diagnosis has brought a new challenge. And while they both have tried to keep smiles on their faces, the many roadblocks they are hitting has started to overwhelm them and they now have a hard time fighting back tears each day.
In December of last year David was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bladder Cancer, which has since metastasized to his pelvis, leg, and other parts of his body. David has undergone chemo, is fighting blood clots in his lungs, and has had to be admitted to the hospital multiple times for various issues, including his kidneys trying to shut down. He has been admitted again as I write this page.
David has worked for a local company for over 32 years. As a result of his diagnosis he had to go on long-term disability leave. Last week he found out the company fired him and cancelled his health insurance without notice. He found out because some outsourced company called him to do an exit interview. He is devastated that his company would be so callous after he has been a dedicated employee for 32 years.
And as a result of his insurance being canceled, the cancer center that has been treating him advised him they could not treat him any longer without insurance and further advised him they would need to cancel all of his current appointments until he could obtain health insurance.
His wife Lori scrambled and went online and paid almost $500 for COBRA coverage just so he can get the care he needs. But that is a temporary fix at best, because David and Lori cannot sustain this payment, all of the other medical expenses, and all of their living expenses.
We have all gone through times in our life when we feel hopeless and alone, so we all know the desperation, fear, and sadness they both are feeling right now. So I am begging all of you to dig deep in your hearts and your pockets to help these two amazing people through this difficult journey that they are facing. Please help them and let them know we are all here for them.
His wife Lori is doing her very best to support him emotionally and to support their family financially, working in excess of 16 hours a day in some instances and being on call throughout the night. All of it has taken its toll on her as well since she is recovering from leg surgery resulting from a motorcycle accident and watching the fear and pain David is experiencing each day.
David and Lori are an amazing couple who have been married 29 years. They love life, riding their motorcycle, cuddling with their beautiful dogs, and being part of the Old Town Chapter family. They are both hard workers who have worked since they were 16 years old. They never ask others for help and are always the ones helping others. Please help them now in their time of need. And more importantly, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
