David Vader Camp Scholarship Fund
Tax deductible
This GoFundMe Campaign is in honor of David Vader who passed unexpectedly on February 13, 2019, while on vacation with his wife Nancy and sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Lowell Fritz in beautiful Sanibel, FL.
David led a life of cheerful service. As a Montgomery County educator and principal, he fought for the rights of special needs kids to experience the joys of outdoor education. A converted Congregationalist from Hartford Connecticut, David was a longtime United Methodist thanks to the former Nancy Smith of Lonaconing, MD. David was always active in Church and in the world serving others.
For more than a decade, David volunteered as a camp counselor at West River Camp, a United Methodist Camp in Churchton, MD. David particularly enjoyed working the Mini-Camp, which allows young children, especially from areas of urban need, to experience camp for the first time. The picture above shows David holding a seine net with a child at West River.
In honor of David's life of service and his dedication to outdoor education and lending a hand - A Real Hand - to those in need, his family has established this fundraising effort to provide scholarships to United Methodist Church camps in the Baltimore-Washington Conference for children who could not otherwise afford to attend.
All donations are tax-deductible and will flow through Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Laurel, MD, where David's daughter is the Senior Pastor, and where he worshiped, studied, played, and served in his last years. Volunteers from Emmanuel staff Mini-Camp every year.
We are so grateful for David's life and though we are deeply saddened by his loss, we feel the support of David's community and the opportunity to do what he did - give, generously.
Thank you for any gift you can share. Donations to the David Vader Memorial Fund may also be made directly to Emmanuel UMC at EUMCLaurel.org
