Dear friends of David Thayer ~
As many of you already know, David, our beloved David, is currently hospitalized at Grady.
What we know right now is he has severe emphysema (COPD). This seems to be the biggest hurdle along with possible deficiency in brain function/lung infection.
His heart and liver are NOT the biggest concern right now, this is a GOOD thing!
He is resting as comfortable as possible, medicated heavily. He is receiving respiratory support but providing 50% of his own oxygen which is a huge improvement from yesterday.
David still has great strength in both arms, can move both legs and is unlikely to have had any notable stroke.
The Dr. was careful to say there is no way yet to determine the extent of brain acitivity nor was he particularly optimistic but did say that people DO "wake up" from this state. Only time will tell.
We must wait for brain imaging until his respiratory issues and blood pressure are stable.
David needs a lot of help right now...good thoughts & financial donations are ways you can help during this very difficult time.
If you know the iconic house and grounds, on Powell St, you know what a huge task it is to keep this home running.
The pipes just burst so in addition to his medical care he needs help to replace the pipes.
Also, if you know of anyone who might be able to hire his crew for a job or three, that would be great!
David has a few key folks helping navigate this difficult journey and they are planted firmly at the hospital...asking questions and making a plan.
