David Stimpson - WE NEED YOUR DONATIONS

Donation protected
Hi, my name is David Scott, and I am David Stimpson's uncle. I have joined with a team of David's family and friends to raise much needed funds to support his recovery and ongoing critical health and care needs.

On December 21st, 2021, David (affectionately known as 'Stimo') Stimpson was repeatedly stabbed in a vicious attack while at his work as Curator of the National Museum at the Institute of Jamaica. In the immediate aftermath, David was left completely paralyzed below the neck. With almost daily rehabilitation he has regained some limited movement in his limbs and continues to work painstakingly to recover as much mobility as possible.

Donations from supporters have helped to defray costs of significant home renovations to accommodate David's return home from hospital, as well as ongoing nursing, rehab care and other ongoing needs.

Through the generous support of well wishers from around the world, we are pleased to report that Stimo and wife Sharon arrived in Jacksonville Florida on April 8, and David has begun treatment at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital. At this time, the Brooks Rehabilitation Centre offers Stimo the best chance of maximizing the potential return of mobility, with the limited rehab options available in Jamaica. He will be at Brooks for a 1-month treatment program.

The first 6 months following a severe spinal injury are the most critical. At this point the Jamaican Government (of which David Stimpson is still an employee) has made a verbal commitment to support this necessary rehab treatment. Since time is of the essence, the decision has been made to move ahead with getting David in treatment while we trust the government to fulfill its promise in due time.

Donations have been leveraged to cover the initial US $27,200 payment to Brooks Rehab to cover the first 2-week period of David's treatment. We have another US $9,000 in donations towards the second 2-week period.

There is currently a shortfall of $18,200 to cover the treatment costs, which must be paid before April 19th.

We are hopeful that this month of rehab at the Brooks Institute will significantly improve Stimo's condition and lead to greater independence. For the recovery to continue, David will require another one-month stay at Brooks or another equally high-level rehab facility, likely in July.

Costs for the additional month are expected to be an additional USD $54,000.

We appreciate any support that well-wishers provide to help to cover these outstanding costs.

Message from Stimo

The family extends their appreciation to all who have supported David's nursing care and rehabilitation.

Here is a note to you all from Stimo himself, expressing his gratitude for the love and support you have generously poured out on him and his family:

'To my friends and champions, sponsors of this Stimo Project:

I must personally thank you for coming to my rescue so quickly and resolutely when I was stabbed last December. It has so far, surely been a rocky and turbulent, few months for my family. We couldn’t have ever got through it without your prayers and support.

To you all, for your kindness and determined efforts to get me going again, it is now my duty in show of thanks, to do all I can to improve and get well.

In midst of all the mayhem, Sharon, my wonderful and most industrious wife.

Beautiful Life!'

David Stimo Stimpson is a soft spoken, humble and well liked person, who never has an unkind word to say about anyone. Staff at the Institute of Jamaica are still in shock at the senseless attack. David looks forward to returning to work one day, and this rehab treatment is a critical time-limited option that may allow him to get there, with your help.
