David Schmaus’ Medical Expenses

Hi, my name is John and I’m fundraising for David Schmaus’ medical expenses. David has authorized me to share the following information and is not objecting to a gofundme. David was paragliding in Mexico and had a hard landing. He’s broken his left wrist, right ankle, and has a T12 burst fracture. He was helicopter airlifted to Mexico City, Hospital Angeles del Pedregal, a private hospital. His most immediate concern is his unstable T12 fracture impinging on his spinal cord for which he is receiving an emergency operation. Following this he should be stable for transport back to the USA to undergo treatment for his ankle and wrist.

David has travel medical insurance, but this has been difficult to deal with (the private hospital requires upfront payment following which insurance should reimburse him—mostly, hopefully). Of course, there will be significant miscellaneous expenses and loss of income during his long recovery estimated to last several months. All the money will go to help David with these expenses. David wouldn’t ask, but let’s show him we’re here for him!
