Dear Esteemed Clients,

Some of our relationships with you have been years in the making.  You have traveled with us from various salons, through happy and sad life events.  You have sat in our chairs, told us about your day, shared a laugh or a deep conversation, and have become important people in our lives.  We have become invested in you and through the artistry of making beautiful hair; we hope that even if it’s in a small way, we have contributed to your well-being.  We miss you and hope so badly that you and your families are safe and healthy.  David Rios Salon staff can’t thank you enough for all of the years of loyalty and support that you have so generously provided.

As you know, Covid-19 has dealt a devastating blow to our industry, as we are commission based.  Because of the fact that we are commission based, our staff does not have any benefits like paid time off and health insurance.  You are our bosses and if we cannot serve you, then we do not have an income.  Many utility and credit card companies are working with people to delay or provide payment plans.  However, our employees live all over the DMV area, where the postponement of mortgages and rent is not a benefit experienced by all.  Our salon is also experiencing this issue. Somehow, with the loss of income overnight, we must find a way to continue to pay rent and provide basic necessities for our families.   We were forced to close our doors on March 21st and as per Mayor Bowser, we cannot reopen until April 25th.  This information is as of today.  However, we are unsure about when we can return to work because as you know, the spread of Covid-19 is exponential, and we must wait for guidance from the government in order to maintain the health and safety of our communities.

Many of you have been so kind as to reach out to us and inquire about the best way to support us during this difficult time.  We appreciate that so much.  And as difficult as it is for some of us to ask for help at all, at this point we are forced to.  Our Salon would be grateful for any donation you can make to help us pay for rent this month and help our employees get by as well.  David and Didier will not accept any funds from your donations as they would like only the salon and its employees to benefit.  We are hoping to raise $60,000 dollars, of which $24,000 would go towards our rent and the rest would be distributed amongst our staff of 24.  In the event that we are unable to reach our goal, we will split the funds 50/50 between the salon and staff.  Your contribution will help ease some of the anxiety we are feeling due to economic strain.  We are immensely thankful for any help you are able to provide. Among other things, this virus has taught us the importance of human connection and maintaining hope. “Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear.  If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today, “(Thich Nhat Hanh). David Rios Salon staff sends our love and best wishes to you and your loved ones.  Rest assured that we can all bear this hardship together.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
David Rios Salon & Spa
