Please Help David Rawlings Medical Care Fund

Donation protected

David is a happy, loving, curious four year-old with a very rare and complex case of arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a vascular anomaly that results in lifelong disfigurement. After an exhausting battle with our health insurance company, Anthem HealthKeepers, we made our way to Boston Childrens Hospital Vascular Anomalies Clinic on April 7th. It was a 1,200 mile round trip from our home in Virginia.

We need your help:

Your prayers for the medical team that will treat David’s condition and devise the best medical treatment plan for his left cheek, eyes, nose and mouth.

Prayers that Anthem HealthKeepers will approve and cover payments for David’s treatment plan.

Contributions to cover the mounting costs of caring for David along with our other two children while I work part time at home answering calls for our small family exterior cleaning business. I must travel 400 miles round trip for David’s regular vascular clinics and testing done at National Children’s Hospital in DC/ Maryland. As the vascular team at Boston Children’s Hospital develops a treatment plan, the visits to the Maryland and DC facilities will be more frequent. There will be at least four visits to the Boston vascular clinic for treatment and surgeries within the next year.

I’m Ashby, David’s mom, trying to convey the urgency to move quickly while David is young. We know that puberty triggers rapid growth of AVM resulting in more pain, potential blindness and complete disability, seizures, strokes, and devastating disfigurement; as pictured in the photo above. This is Ashton. Ashton is an 18yo with a similar facial AVM, who experienced rapid growth during puberty. We need to begin treatment immediately to slow the progress of this disease.

This is a long battle that requires all of my attention. We need your help. Every contribution regardless of size is appreciated. Please share David’s story frequently on social media. One person who recently shared David’s story with her personal phone contact list resulted in the most contributions to date.

We have tough decisions to make now that we have a diagnosis. Our lives are on hold; dreams of purchasing a home are now on a permanent hold.

I promise to keep you informed.
