David Pratt's Cancer Fund
Hi my name is Dawn, I am David Pratt's niece. We all lovingly call him Uncle Dave. I am writing this story for him & his family.
About 7 weeks go my Uncle Dave went to the doctor for pain when swallowing and pain in his side. With further testing unfortunately the news was not good. He was diagnosed with Esospageal Cancer & it had spread to his liver. It was so far advanced surgery was not an option & the 1st Oncologist said he was not a candidate for radiation & he would not recommend him for chemotherapy either. He was given 2 years to live.
My Uncle Dave is a wonderful man, full of life with a wife, Janice, and 4 sons; David Jr., Clayton, Jared & John. The 1st three boys are grown but John is only 14 and still needs his father. The grown boys still need their father too, as we all do (his extended family & friends). This news has devistated them and all of us in his extended family. They had gone through this before with Janice. She battled cancer off & on for 20 years.
Uncle Dave is a loving, caring, give youthe shirt off his back kind of man. He's a wonderful father, has always been involved in his sons sports teams coaching & just rooting them on. We have spent many vactions camping, hunting & fishing since I was a child & I'm in my 40's. He loves to tell jokes around the campfire keeping us laughing all night & tell stories like my grandfather used to (his father). Those are some of most precious memories with him. Uncle Dave has never met a stranger & I have never met anyone who doesn't like him. In fact there have been many occasions where I have met people for some reason or another and they ask are you related to David Pratt? I'm always amazed of how many people he has befriended.
Janice, his wife, works a small part time job about 8-15 hrs a week, she hasn't found much more do to the fact her cancer has left her partially blind. My Uncle does not work at all as his too ill. He cannot eat do the nausea, pain, & can't swallow because the tumors in his esophagus have completely surrounded it. He has become jaundice do to the cancer in his liver.
They have no health insurance, almost no income and have already gone through the savings they did have.
Currently David is in the hospital because he was so malnurished and that is all they are treating him for. They are trying to get him indigent care or noncompensated care through the hospital. We are hoping & praying everyday that this works.
In the mean time they have bills piling up and we are looking into other treatments to try and save his life. Some of these are not covered by indigent/uncompensated care.
I hope you can find it in your hearts to help. I know we set a high goal but it takes a lot of money to fight cancer. Which is unfortunate for all the people out there suffering too.
Thank you & Bless you,
The Pratt Family
