Help David Porter recover from a diabetic complication

Our names are Claire and Maya and we are fundraising for our dear friend David who risks amputation if he does not stay off his feet.

David Porter owns the boutique salon Mirror Mirror that is uniquely situated as a cutting-edge salon in Peterborough, Ontario’s under-served East City. David opened Mirror Mirror six years ago to help his clients escape the cookie-cutter standard “old lady” look, but you don’t need to be a senior citizen to enjoy the salon and benefit from David’s long experience and wide range of talents. Everyone is welcome!

Mirror Mirror Salon is David’s inspiration and a community resource, where he can also train apprentices and teach aestheticians about the latest and safest techniques.

Sadly, David has been diagnosed with a grave and destructive condition that afflicts persons with diabetes: Charcot foot neuropathic arthropathy. This is a progressive fragmentation of bones and joints in the presence of neuropathy (nerve damage affecting sensation and movement). It can occur in any joint although it most frequently seen in the foot and ankle.

Put plainly, David’s foot is crumbling and he cannot heal it without getting off his feet. His orthopedic surgeon advises that two months of complete rest is David’s best hope to avoid amputation.

As the sole owner and stylist at Mirror Mirror, David’s livelihood depends on him being on his feet. Yet, David’s health demands he be off his feet for the next two months. He needs our short-term help now to make the best decision possible for his life in the long-term. Please help David in his recovery and ensure his salon will be there when he can work again.
