The David Trager "Man of Character" Scholarship Award

The Yorktown Football Program is proud to present the David Trager "Man of Character" Award, established in memory of a man whose presence, kindness, and integrity touched generations.

David Trager—affectionately known as Pop or Pop Pop—was a beloved fixture at Yorktown sporting events for nearly 30 years. A devout husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and colleague, David lived his life with unwavering dedication to family, community, and service.

A graduate of Colgate College and Cornell Law School, David built a remarkable career in law, spending his entire professional life at one firm where he rose to partner. Beyond his legal work, he also gave back through public service as a justice of the peace in Yonkers and as a judge in New York City.

David embodied the values of humility, generosity, honesty, kindness, and love. He was a selfless man who placed others before himself, and his legacy is defined not only by his professional accomplishments but by the lasting impact he made on everyone he met.

This award honors a Yorktown student-athlete who reflects these same qualities—someone who demonstrates character, integrity, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. By recognizing individuals who carry forward his example, the Yorktown Football Program seeks to keep David Trager’s legacy alive for years to come.

*All donations to the David Trager Man of Character fund will be awarded yearly to one Yorktown Football Senior who fits the criteria for the award. A plaque and scholarship check will be presented at the Yorktown High School Senior Awards Banquet at the end of the school year.*
