David Petry's Covid-19 Recovery

This GoFundMe is for my friend and neighbor David Petry who is recovering from Covid-19. Dave went into the hospital after testing positive on May 2nd. His condition continued to worsen and he was put on a ventilator and induced into a coma on May 7th.  His wife Shelly and kids called and Facetimed with the nurses and doctors daily since they weren’t allowed in the hospital to see him. It was a very emotional and trying time for his family. They continued on this daily emotional roller coaster until Saturday, June 20th. A nurse told the family that Dave was not responding and that IF he survives, he will most likely be unable to function physically or cognitively. I sat with Shelly that night as we were devastated.


The next day - Father’s Day - June 21st - the nurse calls Shelly to do their Facetime call and Dave “woke up”. When he heard her voice, he said “that’s my wife Shelly, I love her”. He then asked about his kids and even knew the name of his dog Sammy that was barking in the background. It was truly a MIRACLE!!!! The doctors were as amazed as everyone else was. He has since been transferred to another hospital that specializes in weaning patients off the ventilator and came home today, July 22, 2020.


I would like to try to help this family out because Dave is such an amazing and giving man. He is the kind of man that can fix anything and is always willing to help. He works 12 hour days and has never said no to anyone who asked for help. I told him one day I wanted to redo my bathroom - we were at Home Depot that evening, and he remodeled my bathroom that weekend. He’s also put his own home projects on hold to help others - delaying installing his hardwood floors to help another neighbor with electric work. He even drove to my mom’s house to cut an old couch in half because she was afraid the movers were going to scrape up the walls trying to get the couch out to the curb.


This family needs all their friends and community to help them out. Shelly has had some medical issues and is currently on disability. Dave has always been there for me and my kids and never asked for anything in return. We think of him as family. I would love to help this family and am asking for your help because they will have mounting medical bills. Every little bit counts and will be greatly appreciated.
