David (Dave) Paynter:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main – John Donne

David has been our friendly giant for as long as any of us have had the privilege to know him, but he faces his own giant now and, just like David facing Goliath, he will defeat the monster – that we know for sure! But, given that he makes his living doing physical things that none of us probably could even consider, like fishing the sea for the treats we all enjoy, he will suffer financially while he fights and recovers. We are asking for those that know David to find what they can to help he, his beautiful daughter Lena, and his loving parents Robbie and Isabel while they all focus on what they must to win this battle. Every little bit counts. I am confident we can all remember times when David and his family have been there for us through the years.

For some who may not know what has gone on, David began receiving chemotherapy treatment in Charlottetown, PEI on Friday June 4 for Hodkins Lymphoma. This will continue for at least the next six months, meaning he cannot work.

After feeling unwell for many months, being diagnosed with pneumonia, and later being told he was suffering from walking pneumonia, David collapsed on the wharf after setting traps on May 17 and was taken by ambulance to hospital. The next few weeks were filled with tests, back & forth to the ER, and anxious moments. Now they know what they are fighting, and they have a plan – but they need to help fill the rather large gap this is going to create. David’s three-year-old daughter, Lena, is the apple of his eye and he hopes to use what energy he has during his fight to help keep her life as normal as possible. While his parents are always right by his side to help, both of them suffer from chronic health concerns themselves, and caring for a toddler and David will surely take a toll.

Whatever we can do as a community to help this wonderful person and family who have always helped anyone in need, is amazing.
