One week prior to heading to Europe for the World Cup openers in November, I tested positive for Covid-19. Per coach and doctor recommendations I followed a very conservative approach to recovery, gradually building my way back into training over the past two months. I am now fully recovered, ready to race, and have my sights set on competing in this year’s World Championships in Obersdorf, Germany starting February 24th. At the 2019 World Championships, I placed 20th in the 50k skate, America’s best 50km World Championship result since 2007. My goal is to place in the top ten this year.
Last season, for the second consecutive year, I finished as the top-ranked distance skier in the US, placing in the top-30 six times on the World Cup. This year, I have the opportunity to start the World Cup in late January; however, as a non-member of the US Ski Team, I am an unfunded athlete. Unlike US Ski Team athletes, I have to cover my World Cup expenses in their entirety. These include waxing fees, room and board at a rate of $125/day, and all travel expenses for myself and my wax technician. Additionally, I must pay for mandatory Covid-19 tests for my wax tech and myself, which is a new part of World Cup protocol to ensure that races can take place safely.
This is where your support comes into play. I hope to raise $10,000 to help cover the expenses I will incur on the World Cup this season. This pursuit will help me reach my goals at World Championships and, ultimately, towards qualifying for the 2022 Olympics. Every donation, large and small, will help me get toward my fundraising goal.
