Dear Friends and Family,
It is with such a heavy heart that on behalf of the Monteverde Family , we want to share the passing of our dearly beloved brother , David D. Monteverde.
His long time friends of San Pedro knew him as “Sleepy”.
Our Brother passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning August 17, 2023 at the age of 62 , after years of battling health conditions . David was a long life resident of San Pedro , he was born June 23, 1961 at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital , now known as Little Company of Mary of San Pedro. He attended Barton Hill , Dana Middle school, San Pedro High and graduated from the Peace Corps., as a Tile setter.
David spent years as a dedicated Tile Contractor before embarking on a journey to Hawaii, where he lived in his cherished Maui for a time. Anticipating a new beginning of belonging to the Heart of the Harbor ,as a Longshoreman , he returned back home, residing with both of our parents.
I believe that Our Lord had a plan for our brother, he was never married nor had children, but to him , his children were all his nieces and nephews. He loved each and every one of them in his own special way… My brother selflessly prioritized others despite having little to give. He cherished collecting antiques from garage sales and swap meets, delighting in sharing collectibles with nieces and nephews.
Although, David suffered through his own medical conditions, unfortunately, he was unable to keep his job as a Longshoremen, but that didn’t stop him nor discouraged him through life’s hurdles. He became a pillar of support for our aging parents, especially our mother who battled dementia for two decades. Their bond was unbreakable, and he tirelessly cared for her, demonstrating unwavering patience and love, even amidst the challenges posed by her condition. He was her sole companion after the death of our father in 2013. He went above and beyond, from not only feeding her, but watching television in his room with her , having coloring book sessions and conversing with her ,no matter how repetitive the conversations would be due to her dementia…his love for her was immense.
David's heart was golden, and his kindness extended beyond family. He cared for his friend Pat, who was wheelchair-bound, and continued to help others even as his own health declined. After our mother's passing in January 2023, David felt her absence deeply. She was HIS world, just as he was hers. He was our mom’s “David”. Out of eight siblings , he won the award of our mom’s heart , he was her “Concentido” …bottom line ,”the apple of her eye”.
I believe David's passing, just seven months after our mother's, appears to be part of a greater plan. He completed his life's mission by loving and caring for our parents, as if this was his destined path. As he reunites with them in eternity, we are left with a void that his presence once filled.
In this challenging time, we humbly ask for your support. If you can find it in your hearts to contribute, your assistance will help us honor David's memory and lay him to rest. Your generosity, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated by our family.
Thank you in advance , on behalf of the Monteverde, Mraz, Higuera and Hernandez Family.
