Hello everyone, my name is Kelly. I’m writing to seek your assistance in raising funds for my father, David Jayne. Many of you may be familiar with him from the beloved Jacks Scissor Wiz. For those who aren’t, Dave is a barber at Jacks Scissor Wiz in Hackettstown. He’s widely recognized and has been an integral part of the community for many years. There’s hardly a place we visit as a family where he doesn’t meet someone he doesn’t know. In fact, he’s even been spotted on planes during family trips, considering he’s been living in Hackettstown for most of his life and serving the community.
Dave, a beloved barber, found himself in urgent need of assistance, even if it was just a small prayer. For months, he had been grappling with persistent fatigue and a profound sense of exhaustion. Initially, routine blood tests revealed no apparent issues, but his persistent discomfort persisted. Seeking further guidance, he consulted his cardiologist, who conducted various tests and delivered a devastating diagnosis: severe coronary artery disease (CAD) necessitating immediate triple bypass surgery.
Before the surgery, Dave made an effort to reach out to his loyal customers. He went above and beyond, even placing a sign on the doors to inform them that the barber shop would be closed. He had set a goal of returning to work by September 16, 2025. Despite the unexpectedness and unpreparedness of the situation, on August 13, 2025, Dave underwent triple bypass surgery. The surgery was a resounding success, with minimal complications. While he experienced some pain and swelling in his legs, which were to be expected, he showed signs of healing and steady progress. On August 18, 2025, he was discharged from the hospital, adhering to his cardiac diet, engaging in light walking, and diligently following all the recommended treatments. Everything appeared to be progressing in the right direction.
However, Dave’s condition took an unexpected turn. He began to appear pale and unwell. He had a follow-up appointment with his cardiologist and visiting nurse, who reassured him that everything was under control. Unfortunately, due to a water main break, Dave was unable to make his scheduled appointment. He was rescheduled a few days later, only to find out that the office was still closed.
As the days passed, Dave’s condition worsened, and he was promptly admitted to Morristown Memorial Hospital on August 30, 2025. He has been there ever since. His severe dehydration had led to kidney damage, and blood work revealed an infection. A persistent cough accompanied his condition, and soon, he discovered fluid in his lungs, necessitating an immediate chest tube to drain it. The new plan was for him to stay in the hospital for a few more days.
Over the next few days, from September 3rd, 2025, to September 5th, 2025, Dave was diagnosed with pneumonia and other complications, further complicating his recovery. It was a series of setbacks for him. He had been taking multiple antibiotics to get better, and just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, on September 5th, 2025, he developed an infection on his chest incision, which was healing so well. He would now need to start a new course of antibiotics to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas while still battling pneumonia and fluid in his lungs.
Despite the setbacks, Dave remained optimistic. Just when things started to look up, on September 7th, 2025, he received devastating news. He had a severe coughing fit that split his chest incision wide open, requiring a temporary wound vac. He would be awaiting surgery to clean and reseal the wound and place a different wound vac, which is scheduled for today, September 8th, 2025.
The rest of our family has been struggling to cope with the situation. Dave has been unable to see his grandchildren, who love him dearly and are very worried and concerned. Face time is no longer doing the trick. It’s been a rollercoaster for Dave. He will no longer be going back to work on September 16th, 2025. He doesn’t have a date of return at this point, and financial issues are arising. He’s in the process of filing for disability, but that’s no easy task as he’s been fighting to receive it. He’s not one to ask for money, so I’m asking for him. He’d be the first to help someone in need, and now it’s his turn. Every little bit helps, and if you can’t contribute, no worries. All we ask is that you send prayers and positive vibes his way. Please share this information widely! I’ll provide updates as they become available. Our only goal is to get Dave healthy and back home. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Kelly Chiarella
