This all started last February on Valentine’s Day after a pain and sip. I, David’s fiancé, told him I wanted to test to be a donor for Raymond Dragoo (my aunt’s husband). He said he wanted to test as well out of the kindness of his heart. Fast forward a few months, and we both tested the same, perfect. Unfortunately at that point they only take one for the next stage of testing to San Francisco. David wanted to go. Fast forward again to about a month ago. David has been doing test after test all in California! David and Ray had been loosing hope. Ray has been on a wild ride as well with one kidney right now, in and out of the hospital, barley able to work.
Guess what?! They finally got the call of good news with a date, March 8th! This is unbelievably exciting and emotional for both sides right now.
Unfortunately, the one thing we didn’t plan for was all the small costs on our side. We had no idea when a date would come. Not only do I have to take off work to bring David to San Francisco and stay a while, it’s also food, gas, parking, someone taking care of the animals, etc. Along with my job not being a PTO job for us, David will be off work for 6-8 weeks with NO PAY! We are not the people to ask for money like this, but all the little things add up.
We would also like to give to Ray and his wife Becky. It has been a long road for them as well and we know they could really use the help, if not more. Once we cover our expenses, everything else will go to them. Their goal was 40,000 and they didn’t get there. We would love to not only change Ray’s life with a kidney, but hopefully make their new life together not buried in hospital debt.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a dollar, or just sharing and getting the word out for these amazing people. Anything helps and is always appreciated!
