David Goggins’ 4 x 4 x 48 for Be Bold & Behold

Hi everyone, John Scipione here! I am excited to share that I will be running in David Goggins’ 4 x 4 x 48 this coming weekend.

Starting Friday, March 4th at 12pm I will be running 4 miles every 4 hours (12pm, 4pm, 8pm, 12am, etc) until I hit 48 miles in 48 hours on Sunday, March 6th at 12pm. Yes, I am crazy, but I did it last year and this year I wanted to add some more meaning to the experience. ❤️

I have made a personal goal to raise $7,500 for research that goes toward finding better, more effective treatments, and ultimately a cure for Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) as part of the Be Bold and Behold cause.

Be Bold and Behold is part of the legacy of Monica Zealand Hill, my wife Verika’s good friend. Monica was a beautiful, dynamic, compassionate woman who lost her life to the devastating disease of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), a disease for which there is currently no cure. She had no previous breast cancer diagnosis and was at Stage 4, metastatic, when the breast cancer was found. Although the diagnosis was devastating, Monica realized that there were countless others who were facing the same reality every day. She also realized that there was a fundamental misperception in the public that breast cancer doesn't kill. That somehow, if you 'catch it early', you'll be cured. At 34, Monica wasn't having mammograms and she had no family history of breast cancer. But the terrible reality, which was Monica's reality, is that the life expectancy for those with MBC is less than three years.

Monica decided that she would dedicate her time and energy to increasing awareness and raising money to fund research for MBC. She wanted it to be a meaningful experience and bring people together to celebrate life. With the help of family and friends, Be Bold and Behold was founded.

Be Bold and Behold started as an annual event designed to bring people together, raise awareness about MBC, celebrate people living with MBC, and raise money for research. All of the funds benefit METAvivor, a non-profit organization that donates every dollar raised to research that goes toward finding better, more effective treatments, and ultimately a cure for MBC.

Monica passed away in April of 2019, 22 months after her initial diagnosis. But her legacy lives on, and it is up to us to continue what she started.

To date, Be Bold and Behold has raised over $475,000, and they strive to continue raising awareness and fund the crucial research needed to prolong, improve and save lives.

"To be bold and behold is to move forward with courage, strength, faith and love. To face your fears and live your life with grace and gratitude. To take nothing for granted and whenever possible choose to see the beauty before you." -Monica Z. Hill
