Thanks to everyone that reached out to see how they could ease the burden of a baby sister’s loss. For those that do not know, my sister Colleen lost her only child, my nephew, 26 year old David.
He passed away at home, in his sleep on Thursday. David had some reconstructive surgery last month, and while convalescing, experienced flu like symptoms. He was triaged and sent home without being tested for Covid-19. A couple of days later, he went to bed, and never woke up.
We are not sure of exactly what happened to cause his sudden passing. What we do know, is that Colleen has been a single parent for all of Davids life. He was her everything. I can’t fathom the pain she is suffering, losing her everything.
Given the requirements to maintain safe distances, we are not able to have a proper funeral or a celebration of life event, especially given the circumstances. These gatherings allow people to share stories, give love, support and console each other. These events provide healing for the soul that lasts far longer than the few moments that we share together.
In lieu of a celebration of life event, I would like to ask people near or far to consider sharing a favorite story about David here. For those that are capable of easing the financial burdens of a Mother that lost her only child, I would ask you to consider making a donation.
Any donation that could be spared will send a message to my baby sister that even in the darkest of times we all are still here for each other and she is not alone. As we see in the stories of the day, world is full of empathetic and caring people, even when they are carrying their own crosses, of which there are many. Thanks for your time and consideration.
Thank you all and have a blessed day.
