My father, who lived in Amarillo, passed away unexpectedly after losing his battle with the Texas heat while working in his yard, and unfortunately - he didn't leave a will, much of a paper trail or and didn't have any life insurance to cover his funeral expenses.
My parents separated when we were pretty young, and ultimately, my brother ended up living with my Dad through his teenage years and most of his 20's... as it turned out, they made pretty good roommates.
My Dad didn't want for much. He loved his Harleys, working on cars (with his hands), loved his cats - and he loved his kids; but his number one priority was my brother, and they were more or less each other's "ride or die" - but my brother is not in a position to take care of the costs associated with the funeral.
That said, several people are asking how they can help, but given he and my brother are really the only family here, along with my Dad's partner Mindy; we aren't really in need of doing a traditional meal train, but we wanted to set up an easy way for folks to contribute to help with covering the cost of the food for after the service as most of the friends and family will be here then; as well as to help cover the costs of the funeral itself given the lack of life insurance.
