Hey ya’ll! My name is Melody Norton, and I created and am managing this GoFundMe for my Dad and his wife, David and Carrie Norton. Unfortunately, Carrie was recently and surprisingly diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. While we’ve all been in a state of shock, the day-to-day reality of her illness is very real and quickly becoming a financial strain. While most medical expenses have been covered, luck in this area is starting to run out. Out-of-pocket expenses for medication have started, and we’re sure there are many more on the horizon for the duration of the fight against this nightmare we call cancer. To make things more difficult, dad and Carrie live an hour and a half from their doctors, and gas and related travel expenses are quickly adding up in dollars and stress to an already difficult situation. Just as importantly, though, to Carrie and all of us who care for her, she has a wish we hope to fulfill as soon as possible. Carri's (and, in support, all of our) wish is for them to sell their home and downsize into something mobile. This will give them much better access to medical care, allowing them to live closer to amenities they need, like home health aides, grocery stores, pharmacies, and emergency care. While we hope it’s more than expected, even with surgery and chemotherapy, as many of us know, it’s hard to say how much time she has left. My goal is to make sure that their focus is more on each other and creating as many beautiful memories as they can, and less about the financial and logistical burdens of cancer.
Funds will be used as needed for:
* Gas & related travel expenses for treatment
* Planning for additional care as needed (i.e., home aid/health aid)
* Upservice charges/costs because of their isolated location
* Travel expenses for me to visit and help out with whatever they need
* Taking day trips to favorite local towns/local travel when feeling up to it
* Eventually, they will sell their house and downsize to help maximize their quality of life and enjoy any remaining time traveling or camping somewhere with beautiful views close to everything they need. This RV will also be my dad’s home until I can afford to get out of this condo and into a house.
