David Brown's Medical Fund

David Brown is the husband of Jayne, father of two daughters: Elizabeth Ruis and Ashleigh Oxford, father-in-law to Lance Ruis and John Oxford and the grandfather of Taylor Ruis.  David and Jayne are the founders of Good Samaritan Counseling in Moultrie, Georgia and have served individuals and families in Moultrie and surrounding counties for over twenty years.  David and Jayne are Christian counselors who are passionate about empowering individuals to have better relationships and to lead extraordinary lives for Christ.  

On December 20, 2016, David was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer (left side) after scheduling a medical appointment due to feeling abnormally fatigued.  Since his initial diagnosis, he has received follow up exams, screenings, scans, and testing.  It has been determined that the best course of treatment will be Proton Therapy.  What is Proton Therapy?  "Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses protons rather than traditional X-rays.  It targets tumors and cancer cells more precisely.  This means less damage to surrounding tissue which results in a lower risk of side effects and a better quality of life during and after cancer treatment." 

David is scheduled to begin Proton Therapy treatment in August of 2017.  The nearest proton treatment center is in Jacksonville, Florida, which is 165 miles from their home in Moultrie, Georgia.  David will receive treatments Monday through Friday for several hours a day, up to eight weeks.  Due to the distance from their home, David and Jayne will be staying in Jacksonville during the week and traveling back to Moultrie on the weekends. 

David and Jayne Brown are the parents of my longtime best friend, Elizabeth Ruis.  They have been a blessing to my life for 22 years now.  David baptized my husband, Virgel, and officiated our wedding ceremony.  David and Jayne are a blessing to countless individuals, couples, and families and are a pillar of the community. 

This fundraiser is intended to relieve the burden of medical bills, co-pays, and expenses involved in:  paying off current medical bills from initial testing and screening, receiving Proton therapy, and relocating to Jacksonville during the weeks of treatment.  David's health insurance has denied paying for this treatment, which has delayed him receiving treatment.  David and Jayne have opted for Medicare coverage of the treatment, but will still be expected to pay portions out of pocket.
