As many of you know - twelve days ago my 43-year-old brother Dave experienced a massive stroke in his hotel room while traveling for business in Ohio.
Just as this incident has proven, life is very unpredictable some times. Everyone that has been following his story and the Caring Bridge Journals http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davezebrowski knows just how much of an emotional roller coaster this has been for our family, for Dave's friends, associates and especially for Dave and his wife Sara.
Since that frightful day, the answers to many questions continue to be unknown. What caused it? What recovery can we expect? When can he go home? What's next? Most importantly, what does the future hold for Dave, Sara and their boys Tommy and Zac?
As a family, we're focusing on the positive and putting all of our efforts into ensuring the best outcome. We know for sure that Dave continues to beat the odds and that feat is one that has been driven by his strength and the loving support and encouragement of so many. Next step is getting Dave transferred and beginning some intense rehabilitation. We are anticipating this happening very soon at Health South Harmarville Rehibilitation Hospital located closer to his home in Pittsburgh. There he'll be able to be further inspired by the great therapists, visits from his boys and PA family and friends who miss him dearly.
With all this in mind, along with the many requests to assist, we've decided to set up a GoFundMe for Dave, Sara and their family. Dave has been getting the very best care and plans are in place to continue that! Rest assured, Sara and the family are fully prepared to continue this with all the good wishes, prayers and loving support that so many have provided. So we want to emphasize that this GoFundMe is being set up to honor so many of your offers of financial support. Any contributions will be used to help off-set costs of providing Dave the very best care through the recovery and to ensure that the financial obligations of what's to come, for him, Sara and their family are minimized.
As an alternative, the National Stroke Association offers a donation site that supports the fight against stroke with a mission to reduce the incidence and impact of strokes. I'm reminded by the beautiful rainbow seen just outside the hospital this morning of a Rumi quote that offers some inspiration to Dave’s future, to our family and the joy and legacy that's still to come.
"Sorrow prepares you for joy. It violently sweeps everything out of your house, so that new joy can find space to enter. It shakes the yellow leaves from the bough of your heart, so that fresh, green leaves can grow in their place. It pulls up the rotten roots, so that new roots hidden beneath have room to grow. Whatever sorrow shakes from your heart, far better things will take their place."
