In his final years, Dave faced Merkel Cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, with remarkable resilience and courage. His determination shone brightest in the loving role he embraced as a steady presence for his granddaughter, Lydia, especially after the loss of her father. Despite his illness, Dave never missed Lydia’s recitals and took great joy in working alongside her on arts and science projects. Their special bond was a source of strength and purpose for him.

Education was deeply important to Dave, and he was passionate about instilling curiosity and a love of learning in Lydia.
