It was like any other day, Dave was on his way home. He is a motorcycle mechanic and was riding his Harley home. A woman driving an SUV decided to make a u-turn at a red light and Dave didn't see her coming as he crossed into the intersection. The impact was intense, Dave was thrown off of his bike and into the air. He landed 66 feet from the where he hit the car. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported him to the nearest level one trauma center in San Diego. By the time he arrived at the hospital he was unconscious from internal bleeding and had multiple fractures. The doctors discovered that he had a concussion, broken back, fractured larynx, broken shoulder, broken upper arm, shattered pelvis, broken hip, torn tendons in his knee, his spine detached from his pelvis and he had multiple cuts, lacerations and bruising. After three and a half hours of surgery to stop his internal bleeding, he was admitted to the ICU where he was unconscious for 4 days. His long road to recovery has included one month in the hospital, four surgeries and what looks to be a very lengthy rehab. Dave's medical bills have totaled more than $1,000,000 so far. Unfortunately the accident insurance policy coverage is insufficient to cover his expenses. Dave can no longer work, he can't walk, he doesn't have the use of his right hand and struggles daily to do what most of us take for granted, like brushing our teeth, or showering. His doctor estimates that he will need at least one year to recover enough to possibly go back to work. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated by Dave, his family and friends. Please share. Let's give Dave some hope for his future.
