I’m raising funds for a guided climb of Denali in Alaska, which would be my 50th state high point and the completion of a lifelong goal I call 50 Before 50: reaching the highest point in all 50 states before I turn 50.

This final climb means a lot to me personally. My journey has been followed not only by my two daughters, but also by students at the middle school where my wife and I both teach. In 2021, I suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and a long recovery. At the time, I thought it might be the end of my challenge to climb state high points. Instead, I kept going, and since that injury I’ve accomplished incredible mountains. This goal has become something that inspires others while also benefiting me physically and mentally.

Denali is North America’s tallest mountain, and preparing for it safely comes with major costs. Donations will help cover the RMI guide service, a prep course training expedition with RMI at Mt. Rainier, specialized climbing gear that I need to purchase or rent, and training with Uphill Athletes so I can be physically prepared for this climb.

I’ve been accepted to a climbing team that will meet in Anchorage on May 26, 2027. I’m hoping to fundraise through December 31, 2026, so I can make the final payments in the months leading up to the climb.
