Wheelchair Van For Dave

Happy 2016 from the Conner family.
I am reaching out to everyone we know to ask for assistance for my wonderful and loving sister Karen Pritchard.   She amazes me more and more as every day passes.  Karen is a fulltime caregiver for her husband Dave.  Dave was always the A personality guy.... Hardworking CPA, kept the lawn and yard in pristine condition, cars were spotless and when the chores were done, he was out jogging or swimming at the local pool.  My husband Mike and Dave would joke about who had the cleanest garage or the best manicured yard.   Dave's health started to take a turn back in 2005 when he suffered his first blood clot of many.  He was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden, a blood clotting disorder and over the years has suffered from many clots including several pulmonary embolisims.  Blood thinners were necessary along with a filter to help guard against additional clots.  Then Dave’s health started having some additional complications.  He had sleeping seizures and was suffering from deep depression.  There were also several falls which led to back pain which was severe enough to send them to a doctor who suggested back surgery to cure his pain.   After this surgery, Dave was never really able to regain the strength to walk on his own.  He has been bed bound and Karen as his caregiver has been exhausting all of their savings to be sure that her loving husband has the care he needs.  Dave never complains about a thing.  He has spent more time in the hospital than home many of the years, while suffering from UTI infections, slow healing ulcerated wounds, bone infections, pneumonia, blood transfusions and sepsis.  Each doctor visit would require ambulance stretcher transport service to get there and home again.  Over the past year, they have managed to get connected with the fantastic Rehab Without Walls.  The therapists have been working with Dave to help him improve his core strength which will allow him to sit up on his own for short periods of time, they have assisted with helping him to feed himself again and have given Karen and Dave some hope that he may be able to have a bit of a life again.  They have received approval for an updated mobile wheelchair and while he may not be out on the dance floor, he would be able to get outside and most importantly, attend the wedding of his daughter in August 2016.  Karen has been keeping everything afloat with credit cards, a small job working from home and "retirement" savings.  It would be such a blessing if we could raise enough money to help with some of the medical bills, and assist with the purchase of a wheelchair equipped van to ease with transportation.   I would so like to be able to help her obtain this greatly needed means of transportation and if you are able to help in any way, thank you.
