Daven during Cancer treatment and surgeries
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Daven Talbott, and in May 2021 I was diagnosed with type 4 colorectal cancer. Type 4 meaning the cancer had moved to my liver as well as my colon. Cancer does not run in my family's medical history, so the news was a shock to my family and me.
Since being diagnosed in May, I have undergone radiation treatment and months of chemotherapy. The radiation shrunk the cancerous tumors in my colon, and along with chemotherapy treatment, the tumors in my liver have also reduced to very minimal coverage. God bless! Even though my liver is about 80% cancer free there’s still areas in my liver that have cancer, and it needs to be surgically removed. As of recently the cancerous tumor grew back in my colon, which restricted the solid flow of waste and made it to where I could not use the bathroom at all except to urinate.
The doctors goal was to surgically remove the cancer from my liver and colon, but in order to do that they had to first give me a Colonostomy. A Colonostomy is a surgical procedure in which they take my colon, disconnect it from the anus, and connect the other side to the outside skin of my stomach area. This surgery allows me to pass waste without it obstructing the rest of my organs and creating more complications than it would have if I did not go through with this procedure. My Operation took place October 1st and I was dispatched home October 3rd.
Although temporary, I have to live with a colostomy bag until the rest of my cancer treatment surgeries are completed and I am cancer free. After getting a colostomy I realized my life will not be the normal life I was used to before. If you don’t know what a colostomy is I suggest you watch the YouTube video 'What is A Colostomy?' to get a brief understanding of what I’m going through.
I am living with my mother, who is acting as my primary caregiver. Medical insurance has been helping me with all my medical finances, but it’s been a difficult time trying to pay off all other expenses and bills because my work schedule has been altered since my diagnosis. Before my Colonostomy I was able to work semi-comfortably as a vintage clothing reseller. Now, since the surgery, I will be out of work for at least the remainder of the year or until my colostomy gets reversed.
I am making this go fund me because money is needed for my bills and comfort of life while living with a Colonostomy bag. This fundraiser is also going to benefit my mom, who as my primary caregiver needs help with gas, hotel rooms (when I have surgeries), and just overall support because cancer is bigger than me and it affects everybody around me.
Please find it in your heart to donate as much as you can and/or share this go fund me on your platform. This is my first time ever making a go fund me, and I don’t know what to expect but I thought I’d give it a try. God bless you for any contribution you’re able to provide for me and my family during these difficult times.
Thank you!
