Hey guys!
It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that I will be running the Vancouver Marathon on Sunday May 7th! And with even more pleasure, I would like to announce that I will be fundraising for the Lesley Head Spinal Cord Injury Fund. Les was involved in a tragic skiing accident in April 2016, and ever since has been fighting to get back her health and begin leading her life again. Unfortunately with the severity of the injury, Les requires daily care and is still working through many bumps along the road. But that’s where we come in to help! :)
Ever since Les’s accident, I wanted to do some sort of fundraising event for her. I knew I could just run any half-marathon, but for me, the fact that it wasn’t a new challenge drove my decision away from staying in my comfort zone. I wanted to use Lesley’s perseverance and daily mental toughness as motivation to complete something that I’ve never done before. And so, when I was setting my 2017 goals, running a full marathon came to mind, with the goal of completing it for Les, while fundraising for her spinal cord injury fund. I signed up for the race, and began the daunting task of training for a marathon. Since the beginning of the year I have been running 40-60km a week, getting my body accustomed to running long distances.
As I approach the three quarter mark of my training, it’s been tough. Running has taken over my life, many nights I return home from work, eat, run, stretch, sleep. There have been runs where I just want to give up – feet hurt, blisters, cramps, not enough energy, my head’s not in it, you name it - but I keep on pushing through. Anytime I want to stop, I picture Les, working as hard as she can to get through her day, staying as positive as can be and it puts a huge smile on my face, and gives me strength to push through these barriers. I know this is the kind of inspiration that will propel me towards the finish line on race day.
So let’s band together and show Les how much we care about her.
All the money donated goes straight to Les, in support of her ongoing recovery, and to help pay her living expenses.
