Dave Jenson, world class Husband, loving and caring Father, uber Bandleader and genuine, authentic Friend, suffered a brain hemorrhage leading to emergency brain surgery on Sunday, May 7th, 2017. We were playing music in Idaho Falls both Friday and Saturday night and he was having a relaxing morning drinking coffee and joking around while packing up to leave. He complained about a headache which rapidly declined to the point 911 was called. The resulting three hour surgery was performed soon after the results of his first MRI were in.
His family made the drive to Idaho Falls and arrived before the surgery was completed. They are still there now (5-11-17) and will be until he's released and transported back to Salt Lake City. Early predictions about when he could travel back were 5 to 7 days after the operation, but everything is a guess with brain injuries. Nobody really knows -- at this time he is still in ICU.
The bleed was between the brain and the skull starting from the top left side and eventually covering much of the left side of his brain. The pressure had pushed his brain a considerable distance, but the doctor said his brain looked normal and he was optimitistic about his recovery. The recovery plan includes admitting him to a rehabilitation center immediatley upon arriving back in Salt Lake City. The term of that stay is completely unknown.
The family are all hardworking, proud folks who would never ask for help for ANYTHING -- they're the ones that are always supplying the help (ask any of us band members), but this event has brought them to their knees emotionaly, and soon to be financially. The shortfall of the covered health insurance expenses will be extreme for the hospital stay, the rehab center at this time is completely open-ended and unpredicable, all the travel related expenses because this happened out of town is salt in the wound, and Dave's income to the family has been halted until further notice -- he has no long or short term disability insurance to cover this incident; only some hope of getting a little Social Security assitance, if they will grant it.
We ask all friends, musicians, music fans and acquaintences to dig in a bit and help Dave and his family out. Be it a prayer, a dollar, or a thousand dollars; all will be appreciated. Dave loves all of you! I know the band has sure felt it. Updates on his condition will be posted on FaceBook whenever we know something new.
